ABOUT

Originally, FORWARD was created by Trista Bowser in the spring of 2021 as an idea for a college project. It was since abandoned for two years with only a cover and layout to show. There were no written pieces and many missing pages. Now, in 2023, FORWARD is being relaunched to the magazine that it strived to be.

The overall tone is strong, dynamic, inclusive, powerful, and confident. We want our audience to pick up our zine and feel empowered and inspired to use their voice. Empowered to be true to themselves. Empowered to help make a difference for women. We strive to build a community of like minded individuals who are eager to come together as a collective and keep these conversations alive.

Our audience of young feminists are American women falling into different race, class, and economic backgrounds who are between the ages of 15-25 and are interested in the fourth and fifth waves of feminism. Since the topics are relatable between generations, it is open to everyone and inclusive to anyone who identifies as a feminist.

The articles within this zine pose questions that relate to current issues that American women are facing (i.e. racial discrimination and discrimination based on sexual orientation and sexuality), feminism within pop-culture, and fashion advice to feel as confident and free as possible. The idea of these topics is to answer and address as many forms of feminism as possible within the 56 pages of FORWARD (Issue Zero).

The paper that was selected will be that of recycled material, as sustainability is also important to the FORWARD team. The iconic FORWARD logo that is represented on the front cover and is bolder on the left hand side to represent the logo moving forward, which in turn demonstrates how the topics within are to push the conversations forward.

FORWARD is a community and a safe space for young feminists to express themselves and to be further educated. It’s time to expand your horizons. It’s time to move FORWARD.

MISSION STATEMENT

We are the destination for young American feminists to stay updated on current issues and to safely use their voice to keep the conversation going.
